Kindergarten

We look forward to welcoming new families to Kindergarten.

Starting school is an important step in a child’s life. At St Georges Basin Public School, we believe in the importance of strong home/school, teacher/parent partnerships from the very first day of your child’s schooling.

For this reason, we organise preschool visits and a Kindergarten transition program, which includes informal playgroup sessions prior to our orientation mornings where parents and children can get to know each other.

The transition program provides opportunities for children starting Kindergarten to settle into a school routine, meet teachers, mix with groups of other children and engage in both structured and unstructured learning activities.

The playgroup sessions and Kindergarten Orientation mornings will be held in Term 4. Our Kindergarten Orientation Program includes information sessions for parents and classroom time for children.

Please use this link to complete an Online Enrolment for Kindergarten at St Georges Basin PS.

After the completion of your enrolment application the school will create an enrolment information package which will be forwarded to parents via siblings, mail & preschools, or can be collected from the school office in August.

This enrolment pack will include all the Information regarding Kindy and provides forms which need to be returned to the office prior to your child’s first Orientation session.

If you know of any families who have a Kindergarten aged child, please pass this form onto them or direct them to our website https://stgeorgesb-p.schools.nsw.gov.au

Non-Local enrolment

Will the school have a place for my child? - Our school has reached its enrolment cap. As per the department’s policy, we are not considering out-of-area applications unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Our enrolment cap has been set to support student wellbeing, quality education and avoid overcrowding.

Information for Parents

Parents may apply for the non-local enrolment of their child in addition to their designated local school. A separate application form is required for each school.

Priority for enrolment will be given to students entering Kindergarten. Places may also be available in Years 1-6.

Any school that is over its buffer and CAP will not be able to accept out of area enrolments unless approved by the in-area principal and the Director Educational Leadership.

The reasons for accepting an out-of-area enrolment for all schools will need to meet the criteria outlined below and based on compelling and authentic circumstances (supporting documentation will assist your application)

Reasons for choosing non-local placements in a Bay & Basin Learning Community Primary School may include:

o   siblings already enrolled at the school

o   compassionate circumstances “e.g.” special needs, medical, psychological, wellbeing, staff, returning students

o   proximity and access to the school

o   safety and supervision of students before and after school

o   structure and organisation of the school “e.g.” Aboriginal Education Officer, Defence Support Transition Aide, size of school

o   support class siblings

o   ACT students – Jervis Bay / Wreck Bay

Priority will be given to siblings of children already enrolled. Other reasons will be considered in line with the NSW Department of Education criteria.

The number of students a school may enrol is set centrally. This means that some schools may not have room left for non-local enrolments after accommodating local children.

Parents can appeal against decisions regarding non-local placement to the Director, Educational Leadership, South Coast Network at Warilla Office on 4267 6100.

Non-Local Enrolment applications will only be considered if the applicant confirms that they have first visited the local “in area” school.

After completing your “in area” school visit, please complete an online enrolment with your non- local school:  https://ehub.enrol.education.nsw.gov.au/

The non-local school will then contact you to organise a meeting with their Principal.

We will not consider the following:

Student ability, performance or achievement, as described in the department's enrolment policy.

For specialist settings only: Student ability, performance or achievement in the school’s specialisation may be considered.

When are applications assessed? - We will assess your application within 10 school days and contact you. School holiday periods may increase assessment times.

Information exchange between schools - Schools exchange information about online and paper out-of-area applications to assist in planning and student care.

We may share your child's application with:

- the NSW Government school they currently attend
- your local NSW Government school.

Please note that the submission of an Out of Area application does not guarantee placement at our school.
